MARSHALL, Mo. – Spring Arbor University saw its postseason run come to a heartbreaking end Saturday, falling 2–1 in overtime to No. 4 Missouri Valley College in the second round of the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship.
Despite being outshot 15–2, the Cougars battled with grit and resilience, powered by an exceptional performance from goalkeeper
Reagan Kohler, who finished with seven saves.
The match was scoreless at halftime thanks to several highlight-reel stops from Kohler. Spring Arbor appeared to break through early in the second half when a shot found the back of the net in the 51st minute, but the goal was waved off for offside.
Just moments later, Missouri Valley capitalized, taking a 1–0 lead in the 53rd minute when a shot from Judit Ferre deflected off an SAU defender and caromed into the goal.
Spring Arbor responded quickly. In the 58th minute, the Cougars' leading goal scorer
Karly Miller coolly buried a penalty kick to pull the Cougars level at 1–1 – marking her 11th tally of the season.
From there, Missouri Valley pressed for a winner, generating several dangerous chances, but Kohler stood tall, turning away everything in regulation to force overtime.
However, the extra period was short-lived. Missouri Valley scored the golden goal just 17 seconds into overtime, ending the Cougars' season and advancing to the NAIA final site in Pensacola.
Spring Arbor closes the year with a 10-5-6 record after earning its 16th straight appearance in the national tournament.
