GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Columbia came out swinging in the bottom of the first, scoring four runs on an RBI single and a bases clearing double, all with two outs.
- The teams traded zeros until the top of the fourth, when Spring Arbor would res get on the board with a Ryan Gonzalez RBI single to right.
- Columbia responded in the bottom half of the 4th, stringing together two doubles and a single to bring two more across and extend their lead to 6-1.
- A first and third steal play that saw the ball fly into center field gave Spring Arbor their second run of the contest, but the Cougars were unable to muster anything else.
- The starter for Spring Arbor was Trammell Lindstrom, who threw 4 innings, allowing 9 hits, 6 earned runs, 4 walks, and striking out 2. Colin Snyder came out of the bullpen in relief and was fantastic, tossing 2 innings, and allowing 1 hit, no runs, no free passes, and striking out one.
- Offensively, Ryan Gonzalez led the way, going 1 for 3 with an RBI. Zach Adams, Joey Tessmer, and Jake Zeeb each added knocks, while Cade Heckendorn walked and scored, and Jake Spedoske walked and swiped a bag.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Game 2 was a pitchers duel, with only three runs total in the contest. Spring Arbor would strike first, as Joey Tessmer reached on an error, Landon Raczkowski doubled, and Jake Zeeb scored pinch-runner Brenden Phillips on a sacrifice fly.
- It was zeros all around for the next 4 innings before MidAmerica Nazarene got on the board in the 5th, with a triple and a sac fly to tie it 1-1.
- Spring Arbor would strand runners on first and second in the top of the 6th, after an unlucky Gonzalez flyout caused Raczkowski to get doubled up after taking off on the pitch.
- MidAmerica threatened in the bottom of the frame, but that threat was thwarted by the defensive substitution at catcher, Zach Adams. Adams proceeded to throw out two would-be base stealers for the first and final outs of the inning, to keep the game tied going into the final frame.
- After an uneventful top half of the 7th for the Spring Arbor offense, MidAmerica loaded the bases on walks, and won the game on a bloop single to right.
- Starter John Hojnowski was terrific for the Cougars, going 6.1 innings, allowing only 3 hits, 2 earned runs, 3 walks, and striking out 4.
- Landon Raczkowski paced the offense for the Cougars, going 2 for 2 with a double and a walk. Joey Tessmer, Cade Heckendorn, and Ryan Gonzalez each added knocks, while Jake Zeeb had the lone RBI, as well as drawing a walk.
