Baseball drops doubleheader to Taylor

SPRING ARBOR, MI – On a beautiful day for baseball on Friday afternoon, the Spring Arbor baseball team took on Taylor in a Crossroads League battle. Game one was a dominant offensive performance from the Trojans, as they scored 22 runs in a 22-2 mercy rule win in seven innings. Game two was a tightly contested battle for the first five innings, before the Cougar bullpen imploded, allowing 10 runs in the last two innings, resulting in a 13-2 win for Taylor.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS 

Game one began with a scoreless first inning for both teams, but that proved to be short-lived, as Taylor put up eight runs in the top of second to jump out to an 8-0 lead. Spring Arbor would go scoreless once again in the bottom of the second, and the Trojans would add five more in the top of the third on back-to-back home runs, one being a grand slam, to extend their lead to 13-0. 

Both teams would have a scoreless fourth frame before Taylor would continue their offensive onslaught, adding five more runs in the fifth on three RBI singles to push the lead to 18-0. The Cougars would finally get on the board in the bottom of the fifth, as Jake Spedoske would go deep for his first career home run, and Aiden Brunin would add a long ball two batters later to make it 18-2. Taylor would add 4 more runs in the 7th, and hold Spring Arbor scoreless to seal the victory via mercy rule, 22-2.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS 

In the top of the first inning, the Taylor offense picked right up where they left off, going up 2-0 two batters into the game on a home run. Spring Arbor was unable to respond in the bottom of the frame, and both teams went scoreless in the second inning before Spring Arbor got on the board in the bottom of the third via a Conner Barkel sacrifice bunt and errant throw. The throw scored courtesy runner Brenden Phillips who was on because of a Zach Adams double to begin the inning.  

Taylor would once again go scoreless in the fourth inning, and Spring Arbor would muster up another rally, tying the game at 2 as Connor Dee reached on an error by the third baseman, scoring Landon Raczkowski who reached via walk. Taylor would respond right back however in the top of the fifth, leading off the inning with a home run to take the lead back, 3-2. Spring Arbor would threaten in the bottom of the frame, but did not score.  

In the top of the sixth, the Trojans showed their offensive prowess once again, knocking three balls out of the yard in the inning, and extending their lead to 8-2. Spring Arbor would once again threaten with runners at second and third in the bottom of the sixth, but could not score them, and the Taylor offense got right back to work. The Trojans would post another five run inning in the top of the seventh, and take complete control of the contest, 13-2. Spring Arbor couldn't muster up a rally in the bottom of the frame, and Taylor would earn the sweep of the day.
