GOSHEN, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University men's basketball team earned an 81-71 road victory over Goshen College on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Cougars improved to 9-8 overall and 2-5 in Crossroads League play.
The game stayed tight through much of the first half, but Spring Arbor used a 14-2 run late in the period and took a 46-34 lead into halftime.
Goshen trimmed the deficit to five, 53-48, with 12:11 remaining in the second half, but the Cougars responded with another run to push the lead back to double digits.
The Maple Leafs made one final push and pulled within six, 75-69, at the 1:40 mark, but a basket from
Warrick Elder followed by an old-fashioned three-point play from
David Cundiff helped seal the win for SAU.
Travis Grayson led all scorers with 24 points while also handing out seven assists.
Dante Favor recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds while
Brandon Trilli added 13 points and eight boards. Elder chipped in 10 points.
Spring Arbor shot 45 percent from the field, held Goshen to 39 percent shooting, and controlled the glass with a 47-35 rebounding advantage.
The Cougars play host to Taylor University (14-3, 6-1 CL) on Wednesday, Jan. 14 starting at 7 p.m. from the McDonald Athletic Center.
