HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The No. 21 ranked Spring Arbor University women's basketball team delivered a dominant second-half performance to pull away for an 81-52 road victory over Huntington University, which is receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25, on Saturday.
The win improves SAU to 17-3 overall and 8-2 in Crossroads League play.
The contest was tight through the first quarter and a half before Spring Arbor used a key 10-0 run in the second quarter – capped by a
Rielyn Goodwin 3-pointer – to take a 24-20 advantage. The Foresters answered to keep it close, but the Cougars carried a narrow 28-26 lead into halftime.
Spring Arbor came out of the break firing, connecting on 7-of-8 shots from the field to open the third period, including a pair of 3-pointers, to quickly push the margin into double figures. The Cougars built a 15-point lead by the end of the stanza and continued to widen the gap in the fourth quarter on their way to completing the season sweep of Huntington.
Megan Zeitz led all scorers with 15 points on an efficient 5-of-6 shooting while Alayna Wagner added 13 points and
Haven Chapman chipped in 11.
Ashley Weller contributed nine points to go along with four steals and three rebounds.
As a team, Spring Arbor shot 50 percent from the field and held Huntington to a season-low 30 percent shooting.
