SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Spring Arbor University's Gracie Beld has been named the Crossroads League Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Beld contributed on both ends of the field in No. 11 Spring Arbor's 3-0 victory over Bethel University on Saturday, scoring the game-winning goal and helping limit the Pilots to just two shots.

The Hudsonville, Michigan, native broke a scoreless tie in the 53rd minute, finishing off an assist from Claire VanZanten. Her goal sparked a stretch of three SAU scores in less than five minutes.

Defensively, Beld helped the Cougars hold Bethel without a shot on goal. SAU did not allow a shot in the second half and finished with a 22-2 advantage in total attempts.

The victory improved Spring Arbor to 12-2-2 overall and 6-1-1 in Crossroads League play. The Cougars are unbeaten in their last seven matches, posting a 6-0-1 record while outscoring opponents 19-1.

Spring Arbor closes the regular season Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Goshen College. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
