Rosa scores twice as Cougars blank Taylor on Homecoming

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. — The Spring Arbor University men's soccer team defeated Taylor University 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Cougar Soccer Complex during SAU's Homecoming weekend.
 
Pedro Rosa scored twice and Warre Mondelaers assisted on both goals as the Cougars earned their first Crossroads League win of the season. Spring Arbor improved to 9-1-3 overall and 1-1-2 in conference play, while Taylor fell to 6-5-2 overall and 0-4 in the league.
 
Rosa opened the scoring in the 14th minute off an assist from Mondelaers. Tiago Morais added his first goal of the season in the 31st minute, finishing off an assist from Ian Lama to give SAU a 2-0 halftime lead.
 
The Cougars continued to create chances after the break. Mondelaers hit the crossbar in the 59th minute before connecting with Rosa again in the 74th minute for the afternoon's final goal.
 
Rosa now has six goals this season, including four in the Cougars' last three matches. Mondelaers' two assists brought his season total to five, while Lama recorded his fourth assist.
 
Spring Arbor limited Taylor to four shots and held an 11-4 advantage overall, including a 9-2 edge in shots on goal. Soren Goubely Dondaine made two saves in the first half, and Tommy Farrell played the final 45 minutes without facing a shot on goal as the Cougars secured their fourth shutout of the season.
 
The victory kept SAU unbeaten at home with a 6-0-1 record.
 
Spring Arbor hosts Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Cougar Soccer Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
