SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 16 Spring Arbor University women's basketball team delivered a dominant performance on Senior Day, defeating Goshen College 98-56 Saturday afternoon inside the McDonald Athletic Center.
The victory improves the Cougars to 21-5 overall and 12-4 in the Crossroads League.
Prior to tip-off, head coach
John Williams and the Cougars honored their four seniors –
Lexi Linder,
Emma Smieska,
Alayna Kulesza and
Kylie Summer – for their contributions to the program.
Spring Arbor wasted little time taking control, building a 23-12 lead after the first quarter and never looking back. The Cougars shot a season-best 60 percent from the field and erupted for 32 points in the third quarter, connecting on 13-of-15 attempts during the frame to put the game out of reach.
Megan Zeitz led all scorers with 18 points and added six rebounds.
Madison Sonsini finished with 14 points, while Smieska tallied 11 points and six assists on her Senior Day.
Haven Chapman contributed 10 points, and
Rielyn Goodwin added nine points and eight assists.
Defensively, SAU forced 34 Goshen turnovers and converted them into 49 points. The Cougars also dominated in the paint, outscoring the Maple Leafs 62-20 inside.
Spring Arbor will close out the regular season on the road Wednesday, Feb. 18 at Taylor University before a Saturday, Feb. 21 showdown at No. 7 University of Saint Francis.
