Cougars Drop Regular Season Finale in Top 20 Showdown at Saint Francis

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 16 ranked Spring Arbor University women's basketball team closed out the regular season on the road Saturday against No. 7 University of Saint Francis, falling 61-44.

With the result, the Cougars move to 22-6 overall and 13-5 in the Crossroads League, finishing third in the conference standings.

Spring Arbor trailed by a slim 11-10 margin after the opening quarter, but Saint Francis used a 6-0 run to begin the second period to create separation. The hosts carried a 28-21 advantage into halftime.

The Cougars struggled to find a rhythm offensively in the third quarter, shooting 2-of-12 from the field, allowing USF to stretch the margin to double digits. Spring Arbor was unable to close the gap down the stretch as Saint Francis secured the win.

Megan Zeitz led SAU with 10 points while Rachel Reichard added six.

Up next, Spring Arbor turns its focus to the Crossroads League Tournament. The Cougars earned the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6-seed Bethel University in a quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday, Feb. 24.
