TITUSVILLE, Fla. – The Spring Arbor University softball team split a pair of contests Saturday at The Space Coast Spring Games, falling 7-2 to the University of Michigan–Dearborn before bouncing back with a 9-1 five-inning victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph.
The Cougars now stand at 6-2 overall on the season.
Game One | UM-Dearborn 7, SAU 2
Michigan-Dearborn struck early, plating three runs in the first inning to take control.
Spring Arbor answered with a run in the third, but the Wolverines added two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to extend their lead and secure the win. The SAU offense was limited to four hits in the contest.
Game Two | SAU 9, Calumet 1 (5 Innings)
The second game told a much different story as the SAU bats came alive.
Spring Arbor erupted for four runs in the second inning, highlighted by RBI hits from
Matajia Cerroni and
Summer Ambler. The Cougars added three more in the third on a three-run home run by
Nicole Barbeau to stretch the lead.
The power surge continued in the fourth when
Grace Lentz connected on a two-run blast to put the game out of reach.
Cerroni and
Grace Luby each finished with two hits and two runs scored while Barbeau tallied three RBIs and crossed the plate twice.
Alexyn DuBois earned her third win of the season, tossing a complete five-inning game. The freshman hurler allowed just one run on five hits while striking out four.
Spring Arbor resumes action Tuesday, March 3 with matchups against Mount Marty University and Dordt University.
