WINONA LAKE, Ind. – The No. 18 ranked Spring Arbor University women's basketball team delivered a dominant performance on the road Wednesday evening, rolling past Grace College 100-35 to complete the season sweep of the Lancers.
The victory improves the Cougars to 19-4 overall and 10-3 in Crossroads League play.
Spring Arbor set the tone early, jumping out to a 27-9 lead after the opening quarter and never looking back. The Cougars' defense was relentless throughout the night, holding Grace to a season-low 35 points. The Lancers, who entered the game averaging 87.6 points per contest, were limited to just 21 percent shooting from the field, including a 2-for-27 performance from 3-point range. SAU also forced Grace into 30 turnovers.
On the offensive end, Spring Arbor was efficient and balanced. The Cougars knocked down a season-best 11 3-pointers and finished the night shooting 44 percent from the field. SAU also controlled the interior, outscoring Grace 52-14 in the paint and winning the rebounding battle 60-40.
Six Cougars reached double figures, led by
Madison Sonsini, who poured in a season-high 15 points.
Haven Chapman added 12, while
Emma Smieska,
Rielyn Goodwin,
Rachel Reichard and
Kylie Summer each chipped in 10.
Spring Arbor returns home on Saturday, Feb. 7 to host Indiana Wesleyan University, with tip-off set for 1 p.m.
