SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University baseball team dropped both games of a Crossroads League doubleheader on Saturday, falling to Huntington University 4-0 and 6-3 at home.
The Cougars move to 23-19 overall and 17-15 in conference play.
Prior to the games, Spring Arbor honored its seven seniors – Seth Austin,
Aiden Brunin,
Jared Plane,
Eli DeVisser,
Zach Adams,
Colin Snyder and
Josh Murphy – as part of Senior Day festivities.
In game one, Huntington scored two runs in the opening inning, but starting pitcher
Jack Will settled in and held the Foresters scoreless over the next six innings.
Spring Arbor, however, was unable to generate offense, finishing with just three hits in the contest. Huntington added two insurance runs in the eighth to secure the 4-0 win.
Seniors
Aiden Brunin and
Zach Adams accounted for two of the Cougars' three hits.
In game two, Huntington broke through with a five-run third inning, scoring all five runs with two outs to take control.
The Foresters extended their lead to 6-1 before Spring Arbor mounted a threat in the fifth, loading the bases with one out. Brunin drew a walk to bring home a run, and
Joey Tessmer followed with an RBI groundout to cut the deficit to 6-3, but the Cougars could get no closer.
Kyler Hinken went the distance on the mound, allowing six runs on six hits while striking out four over seven innings.
Spring Arbor will close out the regular season at home against Indiana Wesleyan University, with the four-game series beginning Thursday, April 23 with a doubleheader.
