FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University softball team suffered its first loss of the Crossroads League Tournament on Thursday afternoon, falling 9-4 to the University of Saint Francis.
The Cougars will now move to the elimination bracket and return to action on Friday.
Saint Francis jumped out to an early lead, scoring five runs over the first three innings to take control.
Spring Arbor responded in the sixth inning, erupting for four runs to cut the deficit to 5-4.
Brooke Meeker provided the big swing with a two-run home run, highlighting the rally.
However, Saint Francis answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning, plating four runs to extend the lead and halt the Cougars' momentum.
Summer Ambler and
Grace Lentz led the offense with two hits apiece.
Spring Arbor will look to keep its season alive on Friday, May 1, in an elimination game scheduled for 11 a.m.
