FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University softball team suffered a pair of losses on the road Tuesday, falling to the University of Saint Francis by scores of 4-2 and 11-2 in Crossroads League action.
With the results, the Cougars move to 20-16 overall and 11-11 in conference play.
In the opener, Spring Arbor grabbed an early 1-0 lead through three innings before Saint Francis answered with two runs in the fourth to take control. The Cougars responded in the fifth when
Anna Kemp scored on a sacrifice fly by
Matajia Cerroni to tie the game at 2-2.
Saint Francis, however, answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning and added an insurance run in the sixth to secure the win. Spring Arbor was limited to four hits in the game, with
Payton Grange accounting for two of them.
Emilee Underwood went six innings in the circle, allowing three earned runs while striking out six.
In game two, Saint Francis jumped out to an early lead with a two-run home run in the first inning. The Cougars answered in the second, as
Alexyn DuBois delivered a two-RBI single to even the score.
Saint Francis regained control with two runs in the second and three more in the third before adding four runs in the sixth to put the game away. Grange continued to swing a hot bat, collecting two hits and scoring a run in the contest.
Spring Arbor returns to action on Wednesday, April 8, traveling to face Indiana Wesleyan University.
