Men’s Soccer Rolls Past Michigan-Dearborn, Posts Second Straight Shutout

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University men's soccer team continued its strong start to the 2026 season Saturday night, earning its second consecutive shutout with a 4-0 victory over the University of Michigan-Dearborn at the Cougar Soccer Complex.

With the win, the Cougars improved to 2-0 while outscoring their first two opponents 7-0.

Michigan-Dearborn had an opportunity to grab the early advantage with a free kick just outside the 18-yard box, but SAU goalkeeper Tommy Farrell made a diving save to turn away the threat and keep the match scoreless.

Spring Arbor broke through in the 24th minute when Pedro Rosa found the back of the net for the opening goal.

From there, the Cougars quickly took control. Alex Murphy doubled the advantage in the 30th minute before Ian Lama converted off a corner kick from Caleb Swartzendruber three minutes later.

Swartzendruber then went from facilitator to scorer, finishing off a pass from Murphy less than three minutes later to send Spring Arbor into halftime with a commanding 4-0 lead.

The Cougar defense made sure the advantage held up, limiting Michigan-Dearborn to just four shots for the match. Spring Arbor finished with a 19-4 advantage in shots and held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

Farrell and Soren Goubely Dondaine combined in goal to preserve the clean sheet, giving SAU back-to-back shutouts to begin the season.

Spring Arbor (2-0) will remain at home for its next contest, hosting Governors State University on Saturday, Aug. 29. Kickoff at the Cougar Soccer Complex is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
