CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – No. 19 Spring Arbor University and Campbellsville University went scoreless through 90 minutes Thursday evening, as the Cougars earned a 0-0 draw on the road against a Tiger squad receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Poll.
Spring Arbor moved to 5-0-1 with the result, while Campbellsville is now 5-0-2.
The Cougars created several opportunities during the opening half.
Tessa Ponstein and
Megan Mihaly each had early attempts before
Alana Simmons put SAU's first shot on goal in the 17th minute, forcing a save from Campbellsville goalkeeper Sydney Hall. Spring Arbor finished the opening 45 minutes with a 5-4 edge in shots and a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
SAU increased the pressure after halftime, outshooting Campbellsville 7-2 over the final 45 minutes. Ponstein put an attempt on target in the 65th minute before Simmons forced saves in the 67th and 73rd minutes, but Hall kept the Cougars off the scoreboard.
Campbellsville generated a pair of opportunities late in the match, with Marta Prieto putting headers on goal in the 77th and 82nd minutes. Walcott stopped both attempts to preserve the scoreless draw.
Spring Arbor finished with a 12-6 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. The Cougars also held a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks. Simmons led SAU with four shots, including three on goal, while
Ava Staker recorded three attempts.
Walcott played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with three saves. The clean sheet was Spring Arbor's fifth shutout through its first six matches of the season.
Spring Arbor continues its road trip Saturday, Sept. 12 with another nationally recognized opponent, traveling to face No. 13 Lindsey Wilson.
