WASHINGTON, Mich. – No. 16 Spring Arbor University closed out its non-conference schedule with a 4-0 victory over Rochester Christian University on Wednesday.
The Cougars improved to 6-1-1 on the season, while Rochester Christian dropped to 1-6-1.
Spring Arbor wasted little time getting on the scoreboard.
Claire VanZanten opened the scoring in the fifth minute, finishing off an assist from
Alyssa Pringle to put the Cougars in front 1-0.
An own goal in the 32nd minute doubled the SAU advantage before
Kamdyn Galey added another just before halftime. Galey put away her first career goal in the 45th minute to send Spring Arbor into the break with a 3-0 lead.
The Cougars continued to control play throughout the second half before
Gracie Beld capped the scoring in the 83rd minute with her first goal of the season.
Spring Arbor finished with a 37-0 advantage in shots, putting 23 attempts on goal, and held a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
VanZanten and Galey each finished with a goal and five shots on target, while Beld also found the back of the net.
Tessa Ponstein recorded six shots with four on goal.
Kailey Walcott and
Mia Warner each played 45 minutes in goal to combine for the clean sheet.
Spring Arbor now turns its attention to Crossroads League play. The Cougars open the conference schedule at home Wednesday, Sept. 23 against No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
