The Spring Arbor University esports program opened its 2026-27 season last week with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Rocket League both beginning competition.

Spring Arbor started the season with a strong performance against the University of Kentucky on Monday, earning a 2-0 victory.

Lucas "CranberryLucas" Morris set the tone in the opening game, taking five stocks as the Cougars earned a 12-8 win.

Kentucky got off to a better start in Game 2, but Nathanael "MatchboxBoom" Cornell helped turn things around for SAU. Cornell took seven consecutive stocks as the Cougars pulled away for another 12-8 victory to complete the sweep.

Spring Arbor returns to action next week against the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

The Cougars' Rocket League squad made its season debut Thursday against MassBay Community College, falling in a tightly contested 4-3 match.

Spring Arbor came out strong, winning each of the first three games to move within one victory of taking the match. Noah "sauce" Sauceda highlighted the early run with a hat trick in a 5-1 victory in Game 3.

MassBay responded by winning the next four games to rally for the 4-3 match victory.

Sauceda provided a consistent offensive presence in the team's first competitive match together, scoring in six of the seven games.

Spring Arbor continues its Rocket League schedule next week against Binghamton University on Thursday before hosting Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. as part of Homecoming weekend.
