FORT WAYNE, Ind. – No. 16 Spring Arbor University picked up its first Crossroads League win of the season Saturday night, defeating the University of Saint Francis 3-0 on the road.
Spring Arbor improved to 7-2-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while Saint Francis fell to 6-5-0 and 0-2. The Cougars controlled the match, outshooting the hosts 18-2 and holding Saint Francis without a shot on goal.
Spring Arbor generated several opportunities throughout the opening half but did not break through until the closing minutes.
Lucy Lampart opened the scoring in the 43rd minute, finding the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
Just over a minute later, the Cougars doubled their advantage.
Claire VanZanten converted a penalty kick at 43:23 to send Spring Arbor into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
The Cougars continued to control possession and create chances after the break, allowing Saint Francis just one shot in the second half. Spring Arbor put the match away in the 81st minute when
Claire Davis scored her first career goal to make it 3-0.
Isa Martinez led Spring Arbor with five shots, while VanZanten added three. The Cougars finished with an 18-2 advantage in shots and a 7-0 edge in corner kicks.
Kailey Walcott and
Mia Warner combined to preserve the clean sheet as Saint Francis was held without an attempt on target.
Spring Arbor returns home Wednesday, Sept. 30 to host Huntington University at 7 p.m.
