Brent Sorg

Brent Sorg begins his second season as the men's soccer team's assistant coach after also serving as Josh Oakley's assistant coach at Alma College since 2017.

Prior to his time at Alma, Sorg was the varsity soccer coach at Williamston High School. In his twelve years at Williamston, he compiled a record of 151-90-21 and led the team to its first district championship in the program's 22-year history. Overall, his Hornets won six league championships and seven district championships, including five straight from 2011 to 2015. They also won one Regional Title and reached the Division 3 State Finals in 2012, 2014 and 2015. The 2012 team saw six players honored with All-State awards and eight seniors receiving All-Academic honors. The 2015 team also had eight seniors take home All-Academic awards.

Sorg's Williamston teams have broken several program records, including most wins in a season (19), fewest losses in a season (4) and most goals in a season (82). They have also earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award six times during his tenure, for which a team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.25 for the entire academic year.

In addition to being hired at Spring Arbor, Sorg is currently a head coach of the Michigan Olympic Development Soccer Program and will be the head coach of the '07 boys teams of the Cap City Athletic 1847 Club beginning in the fall 2019. He has previously spent time as the junior varsity head coach at Haslett High School, the u17 Assistant Coach of the Lansing Rush Soccer Club and the head coach of various teams of the TNT Dynamite Soccer Club.

Sorg is a seven-time winner of the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association (MIHSSCA) District Coach of the Year Award, a three-time MIHSSCA Regional Coach of the Year Award winner and the MIHSSCA Coach of the Year in 2014. He was also named the Lansing State Journal Coach of the Year in 2012. Sorg earned his "B" License from the United States Soccer Association in June of 1999 and his U.S. Youth Soccer National Youth License in 2010.

Sorg has been with the Lansing Police Department since 2000 and a Sergeant since 2015. He currently serves in the Training Unit. He resides in East Lansing.
