Eric Rudland

  • Title
    Head Coach

The face of Spring Arbor University men's soccer is about to change. After a nationwide search, Spring Arbor University Athletic Director Sam Riggleman has announced the hiring of Eric Rudland as the Cougar's new head coach.

Rudland has local roots and was a high school player at Jackson County Western High School before accepting a scholarship to Seattle Pacific University where he played for four years under head coach Cliff McGrath who was Spring Arbor's first ever men's soccer coach.

Currently Rudland serves as a director of coaching for the Michigan Rush, a soccer club based out of Northville, Michigan.

Rudland possesses a prestigious USSF "A" level license and an NSCAA Advanced National Diploma. His resume includes both playing and coaching experience for Crewe Alexandria, a professional soccer club based in England. Rudland has also served as an assistant coach for the men's team at Albion College and the women's team at Madonna University.

According to Riggleman, Rudland was a clear choice to revitalize a Cougar program that has had tough campaigns in the last two fall seasons. "Eric has worked diligently to acquire and sharpen his skills as a coach," commented Riggleman. "The level of expertise that he brings to our men's soccer program is outstanding and he is extremely enthusiastic about laying the groundwork for a top notch men's soccer program here at Spring Arbor University. Having grown up in Spring Arbor, Eric also has a great understanding of what our community values, he will work just as passionately shaping young men's lives as he will striving for excellence on the soccer field."

Although Rudland's resume is dynamic, Spring Arbor will be his first college head coaching post. "I'd like to thank President Webb, Kim Hayworth and Sam Riggleman as well as the search committee for giving me the opportunity to lead the men's soccer program into the future," commented Rudland. "The leadership of the university is making an enormous investment in the men's and women's soccer programs, and I am excited about returning that investment into the lives of the current and future Cougar soccer players."

Rudland will begin his new post immediately by meeting with the current players, establishing an assistant coach and tackling recruiting needs for 2011. "We have a lot of work to do," finished Rudland. "I am committed to establishing SAU as one of the top institutions to play collegiate men's soccer in the state of Michigan."
