Chris Bauman

Chris Bauman enters his 12th year as the Sports Information Director at Spring Arbor University.

At SAU, Bauman oversees athletic communication, including updating and maintaining the athletic website, in-game statistics, creating and designing publications and graphics, managing social media channels, photography and live broadcasts of events, as well as game management staffing and personnel training.

Bauman has spearheaded a number of changes to the operation of the SID office since joining Spring Arbor in the summer of 2014 which have resulted in an expanded reach of Cougar Athletics and a tremendous growth in the department’s social media presence. Additionally, he led a dynamic rebrand of SAU’s athletic marks and logos in 2017, as well as two redesigns of the athletics website, SAUCougars.com, including the most recent in 2020 through industry leader SIDEARM which features a bold new look, easier navigation, and a responsive mobile version of the site.

During his tenure at Spring Arbor, Bauman has led the communication efforts for three women’s soccer NAIA national championships (2015, 2017, 2022), one men’s basketball national championship (2019) and one women's bowling national championship (2025).

Bauman was named the Crossroads League Sports Information Director of the Year in 2019, and has been recognized by his peers with several awards and honors from the NAIA Sports Information Directors Association (NAIA-SIDA) Publications and Media Contest.

He is a member of College Sports Communicators and active within the NAIA, having served on several voting committees for National Player of the Week.

Prior to joining the Cougars, Bauman spent one year on the athletic communications staff at NCAA Division I Purdue University Fort Wayne where he covered the track & field teams and the men’s volleyball team while serving as the statistician for the men’s and women’s basketball teams.

Bauman began his career at Indiana Tech where he spent three years as the Sports Information Director, overseeing an office that covered 22 sports and over 700 student-athletes, while also earning a master’s degree in business administration. In addition to his duties with the Warriors, he also served as the official scorer for the Fort Wayne TinCaps, a High-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres.

A native of Milford, Ohio, Bauman earned bachelor’s degrees in sport management and business administration from Bluffton University in 2009 while serving as an intern in the sports information office and playing on the Beavers’ baseball team.

Chris and his wife, Andréa, reside in Concord, Michigan with their two sons, Sawyer and Camden, and twin daughters, Adelyn and Adelaya.
