A second half surge was not enough for the Spring Arbor University women's basketball team to overcome the eleven point deficit they faced at halftime against the Cornerstone University Golden Eagles on Wednesday.
It was cold shooting that led to the Cougars trailing at halftime. Spring Arbor shot just 26% from the floor in the first half, compared to 44% for the hosts.
After reorganizing at the half, SAU roared back to life and shot a respectable 43% in the second half, including 67% from behind the three point arc. The Golden Eagle lead proved to be too much however and in spite of outscoring CU 40-35 in the second half, the Cougars fell by a 60-66 final score.
Jenn Moor led three SAU players in double figures, scoring a team high 13 points and collecting 5 rebounds. Junior point guard Kara Buehrer chipped in 12 points and 3 assists, while Lyndsey Norman contributed 11 points and a team high 9 boards.
"We played well in the second half," commented SAU head coach Tara Kreklau. "We just need to work on the manner in which we begin games. We can't eb playing from behind early in every game and expect to be successful."
Spring Arbor will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan to take part in the Aquinas College Invitational Tournament.
