Balanced scoring leads Lady Cougars to victory

Amber HuffmanThe Spring Arbor University women's basketball team made things dramatic, but in the end got the result they were looking for as they used overtime to slide past the visiting Cardinals of Concordia University 71-67 on Saturday.

Lyndsey Norman led four Cougars who scored in double figures, as the junior continued her hot shooting, pouring in 20 points on 5 for 7 from the field, including 5 for 6 from behind the three point arc. Norman also gathered a game high 9 rebounds in the contest, just missing a double-double performance.

Junior post player Kristen Miller also had a big day, scoring 18 points on 8 for 18 from the floor. Miller also hauled down seven boards. The junior tandem of Jen Moor and Kara Buehrer rounded out the Cougars who scored in double digits with each player dumping in 13 points. Buehrer passed out a game high 9 assists on the day.

"This was a good win for us," commented SAU head coach Tara Kreklau. "We didn't shoot the ball as well in the second half , but we dug deep and found a way to get things done in the overtime to secure the result. We'll continue to work hard on the fundamentals that are making us a better basketball team."

Spring Arbor will be off until after Christmas when they will travel to the Chicagoland area to participate in the St. Xavier University Holiday Tournament. The Cougars will carry a 5-7 overall record into the tournament.
