Split Results in NYC

Over the weekend the Spring Arbor University women's basketball team traveled to New York to play a series of two games against Houghton College and Roberts Wesleyan College. The Lady Cougars split the games falling in their first game versus Houghton College 45-53 and defeating Roberts Wesleyan College 57-48. The mixed results now put Spring Arbor 1-3 overall in a difficult early schedule.

After the loss to Houghton College the Lady Cougars were able to regroup and regain their composure against Roberts Wesleyan College. In a close first half Spring Arbor entered the locker room down 20-24, while shooting 30% from the field compared to 31% generated by Roberts Wesleyan. In a series of hot shooting during the second half, shooting 48% from the field, SAU was able to build a lead they were able to maintain for the win, 57-48. Freshmen Shelby Blasingame and Kelly Bruggeman led offensive attack netting 14 points and 10 points respectively. Freshman Trisha Seilheimer and junior Kate Bement also both added eight points. Kate Bement and sophomore Megan Bement grabbed seven and eight rebounds apiece.

The Spring Arbor University women's basketball team will next play this Tuesday at home against Concordia. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
