The Spring Arbor University women's basketball team continues to struggle in their difficult non-conference schedule, coming up short on the road against Siena Heights University, 63-40. After shooting 18% from the field in the first half, it proved difficult to dig themselves out of their early offensive woes. The Lady Cougars are currently 1-5 as they approach MCC conference match-ups in the coming week.
The Saints tallied up a large deficit for the Cougars in the first half shooting a solid 44% from the field and outscoring SAU 35-17. Spring Arbor's difficulties continued behind the three point line scoring only 1/13 shots.
The Lady Cougars came out in the second half refocus and were able to shoot 31% from the field compared to the Saints 28%, but it was not enough to make up for the first half troubles. The SAU women's team also shot 2/7 from the three point line and defensively held the Saints to 1/10 behind the arch in the second half. Despite an improved performance in the Cougars were still outscored 28-23 for a final score of 63-40.
The Spring Arbor offensive scoring was spread out with both junior Melissa Tejkl and freshman Kelly Bruggeman netting eight points and sophomore Courtney Smith and freshman Alex Glenn contributing seven points each. Tejkl and Smith also led the team in rebounds with seven apiece.
The Spring Arbor women's basketball team is back at home on Tuesday, November 24th for their first conference game of the season. The Lady Cougars are scheduled for tip-off at 7:00 p.m. against Marian College.
