A balanced offensive effort was not enough for the Spring Arbor University women's basketball team to overcome visiting Grace College, as the Lady Cougars fell 52-66, dropping their record to 1-15 for the season.
Junior Melissa Tejkl once again led the way offensively for the Navy and Yellow, pouring in fifteen points on 6 for 13 from the field. Tejkl was backed up by solid play from Megan Bement (10 points - 4 for 6) and Kelly Bruggeman (8 points - 11 rebounds).
As a team the Cougars shot 38% from the field, while Grace scorched the nets at 56%, including a sizzling 71% (15-21) in the second half.
"We did not play badly, Grace just shot very well in the second half," commented SAU head coach Tara Kreklau. "Kelly Bruggeman was a great physical presence for us, and as a team we played hard. We continue to get better."
The Lady Cougars (1-15 overall, 0-6 MCC) will welcome Huntington University (11-5 overall, 2-2 MCC) to campus on Wednesday for their next conference tilt. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7:00 p.m.
