Cougars Snap Streak; Slay Warriors

The Spring Arbor University women's basketball team snapped a twelve game losing streak and knocked off the Wariors of Rochester College 62-51 on Saturday.

After a very competitive first half that ended in a 21-21 stalemate, the Lady Cougars pulled away in the second stanza, outscoring Rochester 41-30 to seize the much needed victory.

Both teams started the game on a chilly shooting note, as Rochester connected on 37% (9-24) of their attempts from the field while Spring Arbor managed just a frigid 27% (7-26).

The tables turned in the second half however, as the Lady Cougars blazed out of the locker room scorching the twine at a 62% (13-21) clip.  Rochester also shot a bit better (10-24 for 41%), but to no avail as SAU built an eight point cushion and never looked back.

Kristen Kotarba led four Lady Cougars who scored in double digits, dumping in a game high 15 points.  Melissa Tejkl chimed in with 14 and Alex Glenn and Megan Bement added 12 and 11 respectively.

"Obviously the win feels great," commented SAU head coach Tara Krelau.  "We executed very well in the second half, and it feels wonderful to see the hard work that the team has been putting in finally pay off with a result."

The Cougars will travel to Goshen, Indiana to take on the Goshen College Maple Leafs on Wednesday in hopes of extending their new streak.  The game will tip off at 7:00 p.m.
