Lady Cougars Can't Match IWU

The Spring Arbor University women's basketball season came to a halt on a difficult note last night as the Lady Cougars came out on the short end of a 85-45 blowout at the hands of the NAIA #6 ranked Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats.

In the last meeting between the two teams on Saturday, February 6th the Cougars got hot in the second half and shot 75% from the floor en-route to a 68-60 upset.

There would be no repeat performance this time around however, as the Wildcats went on a 27-4 run over the first nine minutes of the contest and never looked back, cruising to the 40 point win.

Melissa Tejkl, Megan Bement and Kristin Kotarba were bright spots for the Lady Cougars, checking in with eight, eight and six points respectively.

Down 24-46 at halftime, things continued to be difficult for SAU in the second stanza as IWU kept the pressure on, connecting on 55% (16-29) of their attempts from the floor.

"Indiana Wesleyan is a very good basketball team," commented SAU head coach Tara Kreklau after the game. "They are ranked in the top 10 for good reason, and they simply overwhelmed us with strong shooting today. The players battled hard, and I am proud of their effort."

Spring Arbor closes out their season at 4-24 overall and a 2-14 mark in MCC play.
