A spirited crowd of nearly 70 students made the two hour trek from Spring Arbor to Mishawaka, Indiana to support the Spring Arbor University men's basketball team in their semi-final match up with the NAIA #10 ranked Bethel College Pilots on Saturday.
In spite of raucous encouragement from the Cougar Nation and an inspired 22 point four assist effort from MCC first team All Conference guard DJ Baisden the Cougars could not find a way past the Pilots in their home gym and came away with a 57-65 loss.
Willie Pickvet was the other Cougar to register double digits in the scoring category, scoring 11 points and grabbing a team high six rebounds in 37 minutes of play. Spring Arbor played the majority of the game without their dominant post player in Rob Boss who sat much of the game in foul trouble and fouled out of the contest after logging just 13 minutes.
The Cougars shot a chilly 36% for the game and were only 18% (3-16) from behind the three point arc.
Spring Arbor will now await an official announcement as to whether or not they will be extended an at-large bid to the NAIA National Chamionships which will be held in Branson, MO next week. Currently it appears as if the Cougars will make the tournament, however the NAIA will make the official bracket announcement on Wednesday.
