The Spring Arbor University men's basketball team was up
against a pretty tall task on Saturday afternoon. The task; on the road in Marion, IN against a
tough 16th ranked Indiana Wesleyan University. Spring Arbor (11-9, 3-3) was playing well,
and expected to be able to walk into Luckey Arena on the campus of Indiana
Wesleyan University and give the Wildcats (16-3, 5-0) all they could handle.
For the most part they did. For 32 ? minutes of the ball game, Spring
Arbor hung right with IWU, shot for shot, point for point, rebound for rebound. The problem is that college basketball is a
40 minute game.
The Cougars started the game strong, scoring the first 5
points and with 7:35 to go in the first half, the game was tied at 19 points
apiece. But the Wildcats of IWU tore off
a 22-3 run before the half to leave Spring Arbor in the dust down 41-22 at the
break.
The second half was played pretty evenly as Spring Arbor outscored
IWU 37-35 and at one point in the half narrowed the Wildcat's lead to 12
points.
Senior forward, Willie Pickvet once again turned in an
outstanding performance knocking down 22 points hitting 9 of 20 shots from the
field. Pickvet also grabbed 6 rebounds
in the game. DJ Baisden scored 11 points
and for the first time this year, DJ never got to the free throw line where he
is ranked 3rd in the nation in FT percentage.
The men return home for two games in a row on Tuesday the 11th
and Saturday the 15th.
Tuesday's game is against Grace College at 7:00 pm and Huntington
College comes to town on Saturday for a 3:00 tilt.
