Women's Basketball Comeback Fall Short at Madonna


LIVONIA, MI - The education continues for the Lady Cougars of Spring Arbor University falling just short of a second half comeback losing to Madonna University 74-62.

Spring Arbor opened up the game with an 11-8 lead through the first five minutes before and would eventually fall behind by 13 points. April Adams, making her season debut, hit a short jumper in the paint with time running out to cut the lead to 11 points heading into the intermission.

After the break, Madonna would come out firing and built a 17 point lead with 15:01 remaining after a pair of Madonna free throws.

The Crusaders would hit a short jumper with 8:07 remaining to take a 57-47 lead and the game would start to get interesting. Audra Norris connected on a field goal with 7:11 left to cut it to eight points, Alex Glenn hit a short jumper with 6:19 to make it a six point deficit, and Norris made a layup to cut it down to four points with 5:57 left in the game.

After a Madonna foul with 5:29 on the clock, Glenn hit a pair of free throws and the Cougars would only trail by two points and it was game on.

Unfortunately for the Cougars, the shots would fail to connect and Madonna would go on a 10-0 run over the next 4:11 before Spring Arbor could even score. Madonna would pull away over the last few minutes of the game and secure the win for the Crusaders.

Spring Arbor falls to 2-3 on the season; Madonna improves to 2-1.

The Cougars were led by Jessica Garrison with 18 points and Audra Norris with 17 points. Alex Glenn added 13 points while April Adams chipped in eight points off the bench.

Spring Arbor will continue to travel as they will visit Adrian, MI to play Siena Height on Thursday night. Game is set for 7:30.
