SPRING ARBOR, MI - The Cougars played shut down basketball
Tuesday night in a defensive gem on the road against Siena Heights taking the
game 64-44.
The win was the fourth straight, all against WHAC opponents,
for Spring Arbor and improves the Cougars to 5-1 on the year. Siena Heights falls to 3-2 for the year.
Rob Hogans led all scorers in the game with 20 points with
two of three 3-pointers on the night.
Hogans would pump the Cougars up with a monster dunk for one of his
seven field goals.
Matt Howe continues his solid play for Spring Arbor scoring
17 points and grabbing five rebounds.
"I was pleased with our defense and I thought we did a
better job on the boards," said Head Coach, Ryan Cottingham. "I was glad to see (Rob) Hogans get going
offensively. With (Chris) Bellamy
playing injured and Howe fighting through some sickness, we needed Rob to be
more assertive, and he came through for us."
The score after the first half was tight at 28-25 with
Spring Arbor taking the slight advantage into the break. But Spring Arbor would shut down any hopes of
a comeback and hold the Saints and outscoring SHU 36-19 in the second
stanza. Siena Heights would shoot only
19% from the field in the second half.
The Cougars will rest until Saturday night when Hope College
comes to town for an 8:00 tip off. This
game has a scheduling change do to event taking place on the campus of Spring
Arbor earlier in the day. The game,
originally set for 7:30, has been pushed back one half hour, to 8:00, to accommodate
parking and crowd control for a National Soccer Tournament for Women's Soccer.
