SYLVANIA, OH - Heading into tonight's game with Lourdes
College, Coach Ryan Frost's concerns for his team was to stick to the basics,
playing ball within the structures of the game plan they have set, and to get
out to a solid start against the athletic Gray Wolves basketball team.
Check, check, and check!
The Cougars jumped out to a quick 9-5 lead after five
minutes of play and would never come close to surrendering the lead. Spring Arbor enjoyed a 37-19 lead at the intermission.
Ball handling, and solid passing are critical elements in
every successful basketball team and the Cougars did that very well
tonight. With only 12 turnovers for the
game, Spring Arbor limited their mistakes and took advantage of Lourdes errors
which led to the Cougar victory.
Senior, Angela Russell led all scorers with 22 points on
five of eight shooting from long range including two straight with 3:17 left in
the game, Russell hit a three pointer and on the following Gray Wolves
possession, Russell stole the ball from Lauren Tilden and four seconds later
hit another three pointer to slam the door shut on any hopes of a Lourdes
comeback.
Spring Arbor totaled five players scoring in double digits
led by Russell, and next by Audra Norris who also possessed a hot hand hitting
three of five 3-pointers aiding in her 17 points. Alex Glenn hit two of three beyond the arc as
she scored 11 points and Jessica Garrison and Ashley Stelter each scored 10
points.
"This was a great overall team effort," said Frost. "We got out of the gate well and really
defended and rebounded the ball well."
Spring Arbor will return home for a brief home stand taking
on Roosevelt University on Friday night.
Tip off time is set for 7:00
