MARION, IN - Head Coach Ryan Frost knew that this was going
to be a tough task heading to Indiana Wesleyan.
IWU is ranked #1 in the NAIA and Frost is in the middle of his first
year at Spring Arbor, a rebuilding year at that. It proved to be more than he and the Lady
Cougars could handle losing to the top ranked team 75-37.
The first 10 minutes provided some hope for the freshman
coach as the Cougars were tied at 16 points apiece after Senior Angela Russell
scored two of her eight points to even the score.
But those would be the last points Spring Arbor would score
for 8:21 until Freshman Michaela Robichaud hit the second of two free throws to
end the scoring drought for the Cougars.
But at that point, Spring Arbor would trail the Wildcats 35-17 with 1:30
remaining in the first half.
IWU would score two more points before the break to lead by
18 at intermission 35-17.
The Wildcats would double up Spring Arbor in the second half
outscoring the Cougars 40-20 in the second stanza to hand Spring Arbor the
75-37 drubbing.
Megan Bement would lead Spring Arbor with nine points, while
Angela Russell added eight points.
The loss dropped the Cougars to 5-11, 1-4 (MCC) while
Indiana Wesleyan improved to 16-1, 5-0 (MCC)
Spring Arbor will return home for a Saturday afternoon tilt
with Huntington University. Game time is
slated for 1:00.
