SPRING ARBOR, MI - The visiting Huntington Foresters drove
the length of the court and Lauren Meese back a back-door cut down the lane and
converted a layup with 2.7 seconds remaining to lift the Foresters to a 48-46
victory over the Spring Arbor University's Lady Cougars. It ended an extremely competitive contest in
which neither team would ever hold a lead larger than five points.
Freshman guard, Michaela Robichaud, standing in at 5'5", led
all rebounders in the game hauling in a career high 13 rebounds. Robichaud scored four points, dished out
three assists and made two steals in the game.
The back and forth game saw nine lead changes including
seven in the second half. The last came
with 41 seconds remaining.
With 0:16 remaining in the game, April Adams missed a short
jumper from the side, but grabbed her own rebound and in the scramble was
fouled as she was attempting to put up a shot and was sent to the line with the
Cougars trailing 45-46. Adams missed her
first attempt, but made her second attempt and tied the game at 46 to set up
the dramatic finish.
Jessica Garrison topped all scorers in the game with 13
points hitting 7 of 8 free throws.
Garrison also blocked two Forester's shots.
Audra Norris added 10 points including 3 of 6 from beyond
the 3-point arc.
Ashley Stelter contributed seven points, Megan Bement scored
six, Angela Russell added three, and Alex Glenn had two points.
The loss was the third straight for the Cougars and dropped their
record to 5-12 and 1-5 in the MCC.
Huntington picked pu their second straight win and improved to 12-5 and
3-3 in the MCC.
Spring Arbor will remain home for Wednesday night tilt with
MCC newcomer Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Mount Vernon has dropped four
straight and is currently 9-7 and 1-5 in conference play. The game is slated to start at 7:00 pm.
