HUNTINGTON, IN - There was a lot of anticipation heading
into tonight's contest between the visiting Spring Arbor University men's
basketball team and Huntington University.
The two teams had both recently upset the former #1 and current #6 rated
Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats so both teams were hopeful to keep their hot streak
going.
Huntington's Caleb Kennedy scored the game's first basket
and would never trail in the game as the Foresters would go onto to win the
game 81-71 despite another great performance from Junior guard Chris Bellamy.
Bellamy scored 27 points hitting 10 of 20 shots from the
field including 4 of 9 from long range.
The difference in the game was rebounding. Huntington virtually eliminated any
opportunity of Spring Arbor getting any second chance points. The Cougars managed only three offensive
rebounds and would only convert one into points when Rob Hogans grabbed a
rebound after a Matt Van Pelt miss with 10 seconds remaining in the game and
Hogans made the put-back. But by then it
was too little, too late with the score79-71 with just the few seconds left in
the game.
Matt Howe scored 16 points, and Hogans scored 15 points as
the trio scored the bulk of Spring Arbor's points with only five Cougars
getting into the points column. Caleb
Byers added eight points and Van Pelt chipped in five to round out the scoring
for the Cougars.
Spring Arbor will take the long trip to Mount Vernon, OH on
Tuesday night for a 7:00 tip with Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Spring Arbor drops to 12-6 and 3-3 in the MCC
and MVNU has failed to win a game in conference play and sits at 6-12, and 0-6.
