Indianapolis, Ind. – In what has been an odd and difficult start to the year for the Spring Arbor University men's basketball team, a pair of freshmen showed plenty of promise on Saturday afternoon despite a 75-65 setback to the Marian University Knights.
Six-foot-two freshman guard Greg Hamilton (Thornapple-Kellogg) scored a personal-best 16 points and dished out three assists in 31 minutes of play while 6'6 freshman Peter Barry (Pinckney) added 11 points and six rebounds in 27 minutes of action. Junior Rob Hogans (North Farmington) netted 16 points and senior Matt Howe tossed in 14 points and grabbed six boards.
Trailing 65-61 with just under two minutes to play Spring Arbor was unable to convert on a great opportunity and would get no closer. The Cougars outrebounded the Knights 33-27 but Marian was able to connect on 10-for-24 from three point range while SAU made just three attempts from long range.
We just haven't gotten into a rhythm. Our upperclassmen have been struggling and that's made it difficult, but there are some good things happening including the development of our young kids.
Spring Arbor (5-4) will return to action on Tuesday night as they host the Olivet College Comets. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
