Lady Cougars pick up first Crossroads League win at Mount Vernon

MOUNT VERNON, OH – Spring Arbor University women's basketball team picked up their first Crossroads League win on the road on Thursday night.  The Cougars shut down Mount Vernon Nazarene in the second half on their way to a 63-43 and made the homecoming for Head Coach Ryan Frost, a Mount Vernon graduate, even sweeter.

Aimee Konkel scored a career high 21 points on laser like shooting as she put up 11 shots on the night and hit seven, all 3-pointers leading all scorers in the game.  Konkel started the game on fire and was 6-8 in the first half alone scoring 18 points to help Spring Arbor to a 33-29 first half lead.

"This was a really a great overall effort tonight," said Frost.  "We really locked them down in the second half.  "Aimee Konkel caught fire in the first half and really got us going on the offensive end of the court."

In the second half, Mount Vernon hit a field goal with 11:43 remaining in the game to cut Spring Arbor's lead 49-41 and the Lady Cougars from Spring Arbor would not allow another field goal for the rest of the entire game.  The only points Spring Arbor would allow would be two free throws, one free-throw with eight minutes remaining, and one with 28 seconds remaining.  Spring Arbor would score 14 points during that same amount of time.

Jessica Garrison poured in 10 points for the Cougars as well as grabbing six rebounds and dishing out four assists.  Jenna Jamieson hauled in a game high eight rebounds to lead Spring Arbor on the boards.

With their first League win, Spring Arbor improves to 7-12 and 1-6 on the year, and the Cougars will host Goshen College on Saturday for a 1:00 tip off against their Crossroads League foe.  Mount Vernon fell to 5-13, and 2-5.
