SPRING ARBOR, MI – Spring Arbor University's women's basketball team picked up their second straight Crossroads League win Saturday afternoon with a 71-60 decision over Goshen College (IN). It was a solid performance from the Cougars hitting he shots when they needed them, and controlling the ball and limiting their mistake to just 13 turnovers.
The first half was evenly played between the two teams with each team taking the lead five time apiece, and each tying the game up once each. The Cougars would enjoy a five point (34-29) lead at the break.
It was right after intermission when Spring Arbor started to pressure the Maple Leafs and start to break away from their guests. Spring Arbor and Goshen traded field goals to open up the second half, but the Cougars would 18 of the games next 20 points over the next seven minutes and pretty much put the game out of reach for Goshen.
Goshen did make a 9-0 run to make Spring Arbor Coach, Ryan Frost, a little nervous, but Audra Norris would make a couple of 3-pointers to regain the momentum for Spring Arbor and the Cougars would coast to victory coming down the stretch.
In total, there were eight players scoring in double digits with Goshen having four players and Spring Arbor having four players. Goshen's four included Tyra Carver (19 pts), Jo'Mani Thomas (14), Liz Tecca (11), and Jamie Stack (10).
For the Cougars, they were led by Jessica Garrison's 15 points, Carlie Newman and Audra Norris each scored 14 points, and Jenna Jamieson chipped in 10 points. Norris hit four 3-pointers and Garrison hit three shots from outside the arc.
The Cougars also controlled the boards leading the Maple Leafs 44-38 in that category.
The two straight wins improved Spring Arbor's season record to 8-12, equaling their win total from a year ago, and Crossroads League mark to 2-6. The Lady Cougars will travel to Upland, IN to play Taylor University on Tuesday night at 7:00
