INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Finishing up the Crossroads League schedule, the Volleyball team dropped their final League match on the schedule to Marian University in Indianapolis, IN. Offensively the Cougar were sharper than they had been but the match went straight sets 16-25, 21-25, 19-25.
Alyssa Frees led the Cougars on the offensive end with nine kills, and Lyndsay Murray led the charge on the defensive side with a match high, 17 digs.
"We found ourselves in a position in each set where we were battling for the set," said Coach, Carol Gates. "Our hitters came up strong for us tonight with a very balanced attack spray. Alyssa had nine kills, Tenille Marowelli (eight) Emily Verhage and Kacy Hersha (seven each) and Rebekah Kujat (five). We talked yesterday about the need for the load of attacking to be more balanced and our hitters responded, hitting a .255 tonight. We just couldn't keep the momentum of the match with us."
The remainder of the season will take place in Grand Rapids, MI with the Aquinas College / Cornerstone University tournament this Friday and Saturday and with two matches on Saturday, November 2.
On Friday, the Cougars will play Cornerstone at 5:00 and then Grace College at 8:00 p.m. On Saturday (10/26), SAU will face Rochester College at 10:00 a.m. and then at 1:00 p.m., take on Aquinas College.
