The Spring Arbor University women's soccer team earned solid 3-0 victory over the visiting Trojans of Taylor University at homecoming Saturday night. Three different players found the net for NAIA #8 ranked Spring Arbor as the Cougars moved to 5-0 in Crossroads League loop play and advanced their overall record to 11-2-1 on the season.
In a battle of two of the conferences leading goal scorers in Taylor's forward Molly Drooger and Spring Arbor's midfielder Karly Linton, it was Linton who was able to strike first and notch the game winning tally in the 14th minute of play. Senior Brooklyn Morgan turned and played Linton, who was streaking between a seam in the Trojan backline. Linton bore down on Taylor netminder Kristiana Griffith, tucking her right footed effort under the diving Griffith for her 14th goal of the season.
In spite of an 8-1 advantage in shots, Spring Arbor held just a 1-0 lead heading into the intermission.
The second half turned into a physical affair as Taylor looked to climb back into the game and Spring Arbor looked to add to their lead.
Junior Becca Lynn gave the home crowd what it was looking for, with a 30 yard laser free kick that grazed the bottom of the crossbar on it's way into the net in the 74th minute.
Freshman Corrie Good finished things off for the home side just minutes later, dancing past a host of Trojan defenders on the flank and slotting her shot to the far side netting to make it 3-0.
Spring Arbor held a 19-4 shots advantage and put 15 of their efforts on frame in the contest. Drooger had both of Taylor's shots on goal on the night.
Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Yancer went the distance for Spring Arbor, grabbing a pair of saves in earning the shutout. Griffith finished with 10 saves in the loss.
Spring Arbor will play it's third challenging match in a row on Tuesday when they travel to Winona Lake, Indiana to take on the Lancers of Grace College. Grace is also 5-0 in Crossroads League play and sits at 8-5 overall, while receiving votes in the latest NAIA polls.
The match will kick off at 4:00 p.m.
