SPRING ARBOR, MI – So far this year, the Spring Arbor University men's basketball team has proved to be a second half team. Spring Arbor have been out-scored 335-329 in the first half but have rebounded in the second half 385-353. With the Cougars down 26-45 to Huntington University at half, Spring Arbor made another run at a comeback with a 36-30 second half but fell short 62-75 to drop to 5-6, 1-1 for the season.
Almost nothing went according to plan for Spring Arbor in the first 20 minutes. Down by 19 points, the Cougars were out=rebounded 20-11, made nine turnovers and were hitting just 41% from the field including just two of nine shots from outside the 3-point line.
But, The Cougars roared back and wouldn't go down without a fight and started connecting on some shots and grabbing some rebounds. Spring Arbor hit 52% from the field including 2/3 from outside the arch and would get back into the game.
With 2:27 left to play, Rob Hogans connected on a 3-pointer to close the gap to 11 points (60-71) and get as close to the Foresters as they would ever get in the second half.
Huntington would stiff-arm the Cougars the rest of the way and as time ran out, Spring Arbor was down 62-75.
Rob Hogans topped the 20 point mark for the 10th time in 11 games pouring in a game high 24 points.
This was the final home game in December as the Cougars will travel to Bethel College on Saturday for a 3:00 game with the Pilots. Following the Bethel game, Spring Arbor will travel to Arizona to compete in the Arizona Christian University Holiday Tournament to face Arizona Christian and Westmont College (CA) on December 16 and 17. The Cougars will end the calendar year with a New Year's Eve game with Siena Heights University in Adrian, MI for a 1:00 game.
