FORT WAYNE, IN – For the second time in as many games, Spring Arbor University's Kylie Townsley scored career high points. The latest was a 20 point performance in the Cougars first game in the SportONE Classic Tournament in Fort Wayne, IN in a 48-61 losing effort against Trinity Christian College. Townsley scored 14 points against Cornerstone in the Cougars last game on December 17.
Townsley started the scoring for the Cougars with a layup and a 2-0 lead and later in the half hit a jumper with 11:01 left to put Spring Arbor in front 13-10. A minute later, Townsley hit a 3-pointer for a 16-13 Cougar lead.
Spring Arbor trailed TCC 23-27 at the break.
With 8:37 left in the game and with Trinity Christian in front 43-36, Townsley connected on a two point jumper and followed that with a 3-pointer to cut the lead to just two points with 7:50 remaining.
Trinity pulled away and the remaining minutes and the Cougars could mount a charge and came up short 49-61.
Along with her 20 points, Townsley hauled in seven rebounds. Rachel Driesenga scored nine points and grabbed seven boards. Jessica Garrison hauled in a team high eight rebounds to lead SAU in that category.
Spring Arbor falls to 6-7 on the season and will face Indiana Tech at 4:00 on New Year's Eve to finish out 2013.
