SPRING ARBOR, MI – It was a combination of poor shooting and turnovers that led to Spring Arbor University's women's basketball team falling to Taylor University 73-41 on Wednesday night on Bockwitz Court in Spring Arbor.
Shooting 26% from the field on 13 of 50 shots including 3 of 18 from beyond the arc the Cougars struggled to get the ball in the hoop. Spring Arbor also committed 27 turnovers in the game.
Carlie Newman led Spring Arbor with 11 points and seven rebounds tonight. It was her 15th game in double digits during her freshmen campaign. She is averaging 11.4 points per contest topping the 300 point mark with 309 points on the season.
April Adams netted eight points for Spring Arbor and Aimee Konkel added six points.
The Cougars fall to 9-18 on the season and 3-12 in Crossroads League play and are now two games behind Mount Vernon Nazarene for the 8th and final spot for the post season tournament. MVNU defeated Goshen 72-33 tonight.
Still with a shot at getting in the post season tournament, Spring Arbor has Goshen, Mount Vernon, and Huntington remaining in the regular season while Mount Vernon has Marian, Spring Arbor, and St. Francis with all of those games on the road. However, the Cougars will need some help from Mount Vernon in order to claim that last spot in post season action.
Spring Arbor will travel to Goshen on Saturday for a 1:00 match up with the Maple Leafs. The final two games for the Cougars will be at home on Wednesday (2/13) at 7:00 against Mount Vernon, and on Saturday (2/16) at 1:00 against Huntington.
