SPRING ARBOR, MI – The volleyball team lost the first two sets to Huntington University on Saturday afternoon, but rallied in a huge way to come back and defeat the Foresters 19-25, 18-25, 25-21, 25-23, 15-8. The win is the first for the Cougars in Crossroads League (CL) action this season and lifts Spring Arbor's record to 5-6 overall and 1-2 in the CL.
"After dropping the first two sets, we came back to win the next three straight to get the win," said Head Coach, Carol Gates. "Intensity and focus was the key and an adjustment in blocking allowed us to find strength in defense. It takes a lot of heart and determination to drop two sets and stay on track for the next three. Adjustments will always be the key to winning volleyball matches and we adjusted better at the end of the match then Huntington did allowing us to keep their hitters at bay and continue to keep ours on the attack."
Lyndsay Murray led the Cougars on the defensive end with 30 digs in the match. Tenille Marowelli had 49 assists and 16 digs.
On the offensive side, Rebekah Kujat led a balanced attack for the Lady Cougars with 19 kills and Alyssa Frees had 17 kills. Emily Verhage also had 10 kills for Spring Arbor.
The cougars came out in command of the fifth, never losing the lead and dominated play to win the match.
Spring Arbor will visit Mishawaka, IN and Bethel College on Wednesday, September 11 to take on the 7-4 (2-0) Pilots. Game time is set for 6:00 pm EST.
