GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University volleyball team competed in the Aquinas College/Cornerstone University Classic in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Friday and Saturday.
On Friday night, the Cougars met Cornerstone and Siena Heights University, falling to both squads in straight sets.
Against the host Golden Eagles, Kujat led the way with eight kills on 16 swings while also adding seven digs. Sophomore Alexis Long followed with five kills and classmate Laura Hardy handed out 10 assists. Senior Lyndsay Murray finished the match with a team-high 11 digs, and sophomore Courtney Kyser and Hardy added three blocks apiece.
In the second match of the day, Kyser paced the Cougars with six kills followed by Kujat and freshman Leah Rose with five. Hardy dished out 13 helpers and Kujat had one ace. Murray and Rose picked up 12 and nine digs, respectively, while freshman Olivia Landis made an impact at the net with four blocks.
On Saturday, SAU opened with Lawrence Tech and Aquinas. After falling behind two sets to none against the Blue Devils, the Cougars battled back to force a fourth set, but were unable to complete the comeback falling 3-1. Spring Arbor then traveled across town to Aquinas, and would drop a match against the Saints in three sets.
In the match against Lawrence Tech, Kujat and Kyser tallied seven kills apiece while Hardy racked up a career-high 22 assists. Defensively, Kujat posted a career-high 14 digs and added five blocks. Murray also recorded 14 digs and freshman Gabrielle Hilliard ended with 10.
Hardy would follow her impressive performance against LTU with 21 assists against the Saints to pace the attack. Landis registered seven kills and Kujat had five.
Kujat was named to the All-Tournament Team while Long earned an Honorable Mention selection.
Spring Arbor returns home to host Marian University on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.
