HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University volleyball team battled back from a two-set deficit to force a decisive fifth set at Huntington University on Wednesday night, but would come up just short falling 3-2 (21-25, 20-25, 25-20, 26-24, 9-15).
After dropping the first two sets of the match, the Cougars rallied back to win the third before fighting off match point in a thrilling fourth frame to even the match at two sets apiece. However, the Foresters would escape with the narrow victory.
Sophomores Rebekah Kujat and Alexis Long led the SAU attack with 11 and nine kills, respectively. Freshmen Courtney Kyser and Leah Rose finished with six kills apiece, while Rose also added five aces. Setters Laura Hardy and Gabrielle Hilliard combined for 34 assists, including a career-high 19 from Hardy.
Senior Lyndsay Murray paced the defensive effort with 19 digs followed by Rose with 15 and Taylor Johnston with seven. Kyser and Long also posted three blocks each.
Spring Arbor will wrap up the road swing with a matchup at #RV Indiana Wesleyan University on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.
