PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Freshman Rachel Driesenga scored 15 points and hauled in a game-high 12 rebounds, but it would not be enough as the Spring Arbor University women's basketball team fell at Trinity Christian College 68-63 on Saturday.
The loss drops the Cougars to 1-2 on the season while the Trolls evened their record at 2-2.
The first half of action featured three ties and seven lead changes, with no team ever leading by more than six points. Trinity Christian held a 37-32 advantage with less than a minute remaining in the opening period, but a basket from Jessica Mabry and a pair of free throws from Autumn Goggin trimmed the deficit to one, 37-36, heading into halftime.
However, the Trolls opened the second half on a 10-0 run to take control of the game and would never relinquish the lead.
Driesenga got the Cougars within four following a lay-in at the 2:40 mark, however, the home team would convert their free throws in the closing seconds to secure the win.
Sophomore Kylie Townsley finished with a team-high 20 points with four assists and four steals. Aimee Konkel added in eight points and five assists while Karly Bender chipped in six points.
Spring Arbor returns home to host Indiana University-South Bend, who is receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Poll, on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
