MISHAWAKA, IN – Monday nights are usually off-nights during the winter, but after Saturday's game was postponed, Spring Arbor and Bethel finally got their contest underway tonight. The Cougars held the early advantage and led at the half, but a strong second half propelled the Pilots to an 80-63 win on Monday night.
Spring Arbor led 31-28 over the Pilots after the first half but Bethel jumped out of the second half with a 21-6 run in the first seven minutes and a 49-37 advantage with just over 13 minutes left in the game.
Bethel had the edge in field goal percentage both inside and outside the 3-point line with the Cougars hitting 42% from the field including just 20% (3-15) from long range, while the Pilots hit 51% from the field with 46% (11-24) coming from 3-point range.
Carlie Newman led Spring Arbor with 14 points and Jessica Mabry was right behind with 13 points. Rachel Driesenga added 10 points for the Cougars. Driesenga grabbed nine boards to lead the Cougars in that stat.
Spring Arbor falls to 10-13 and 4-8 in the Crossroads League and tie with Taylor for seventh place in the CL Standings. Bethel jumps ahead of the Cougars at 5-7.
With the reschedule game today, the Cougars have a busy week and will travel to Winona Lake, IN on Wednesday night for a 7:00 p.m. game with Grace College and then host Taylor University on Saturday afternoon for a 1:00 tilt with the Trojans.
